Lesson 1: Setting Up a Basic Product

Objective

Learn the fundamentals of creating a product in shopVOX.

Outcome

By the end of this lesson, you'll have created a basic product with essential details like its name, description, and base pricing.

Step 1: Creating Your Basic Product

  1. Navigate to Settings
    • Go to the main menu and select Settings.
  2. Select Products
    • From the left-hand menu, choose Products.
  3. Add a New Product
    • Click on the + Add New Product button.
Please note that each lesson builds upon the previous one, with each step dependent on the last as we progress through the series.

Step 2: Fill in the Product Details

Complete the following fields:

  • Product Name: Lesson 1 - Setting Up a Basic Product
  • Interface: Custom
  • Type: Product Lessons
  • Category: Lessons 1-10
  • Product Description: A basic product with essential details like name, description, and base pricing is created.
  • Income Account: Income
  • COG Account: Cost of Goods Sold
  • Cost: $10.00
  • Markup: 2
  • Price: $20.00

After filling in these details, click Save Product.

Step 3: Configuring and Publishing the Product

Once saved, you'll be taken to the Configure Pricing screen by default. We’ll explore this area further in subsequent lessons.

Draft Mode

All newly created products, or copies of products, are initially set to Draft Mode. This is a highly useful feature that allows you to work on a product without introducing it into the main system.

Publishing the Product

To publish your product:

  1. Select the blue action button in the top right corner.
  2. Choose Publish Product from the dropdown menu.

Once published, the draft tag will disappear, indicating that the product is now active and ready to be used in transactions.

Step 4: Adding the Product to a Transaction

  1. Create a New Quote
    • Click the Green + icon at the top and select New Quote.
  2. Fill in the Quote Details
    • Enter the necessary details, keeping them similar to those depicted in this lesson for future reference.
  3. Add a New Line Item
    • Click +Add New Line Item.
    • From the Product dropdown, search for and select Lesson 1 - Setting Up a Basic Product. then "Save this Line Item"

The product is now included in the quote.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You've successfully created your first basic product. In Lesson 2, we’ll copy this product, make some changes, publish it, and add it to the same quote.
