Tyler MacDonald Updated by Tyler MacDonald

Objective

Streamline the product setup by incorporating default items that respond to modifiers.

Outcome

By the end of this lesson, the product setup will be more efficient, with default items that automatically adjust based on user inputs.

Note: In this lesson, we introduce a Default item, which works with the Width + Height modifier.

Step 1: Copy the Previous Lesson's Product and Rename

As with previous lessons, each subsequent lesson will be a copy of the last. Follow these steps:

  1. Copy the Product
    • From Lesson 3 - Enhancing the Product with Templates and Dropdown Menus, click on the blue action button and select Copy Product.
    • This will generate a copy of the product, which will be in Draft Mode.
  2. Update Basic Settings
    • Click on Basic Settings and update the following fields:
      • Product Name: Lesson 4: Adding a Default Item Linked to Modifiers
      • Product Description: The product setup is more efficient, with default items that automatically adjust based on user inputs.

Step 2: Adding a Default Item to the Product Template

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the page to the Product Template, this is where Modifiers, Dropdown Menus, and Default Items are located.
  2. Lets Add A Default Item
    • Click +Add New
    • Add in any Printing Machine rate, for this example I'm adding my own - Generic Printer
    • See how to create a Machine Rate [ Here ], if you need more detail
    • Adjust the following fields:
      • Item Type: Machine Rate
      • Machine Rate: Generic Printer
      • Formula: Area
      • Multiplier: 1
      • System Formula: Area
      • Per LI Unit: Turned On
      • +Add New Default Item
Selecting Area for the formula is what links the Width and Height modifiers to this default item

Step 4: Configuring and Publishing the Product

Once saved, you'll remain on the Configure Pricing screen by default.

Draft Mode

All newly created products, or copies of products, are initially set to Draft Mode. This feature allows you to work on a product without introducing it into the main system.

Publishing the Product

To publish your product:

  1. Select the blue action button in the top right corner.
  2. Choose Publish Product from the dropdown menu.

Once published, the draft tag will disappear, indicating that the product is now active and ready to be used in transactions.

Step 5: Adding the Product to a Transaction

Using the quote started in the previous lesson, let's add this new product as a line item. Using a Width and Height of 120" and selecting a Material from your dropdown, and click save

Conclusion

Congratulations! You've successfully enhanced your product by adding templates, modifiers, and a dropdown menu for customization options. Your product is now more versatile, allowing users to select from a range of options that affect both pricing and specifications. In the next lesson, we’ll explore further customization by incorporating additional logic and modifiers to create even more dynamic products.
