Aaron Aldrich Updated by Aaron Aldrich

Introduction

Grid-based products allow you to apply structured pricing based on variables such as quantity and material. In this article, you’ll learn how to configure a 2D grid with quantity breakpoints to ensure accurate and efficient pricing. This article is designed to supplement the video below, with terminology and steps aligned directly to the walkthrough demonstrated.

Exploring Grid based products

Steps
Step 1 – Access and Duplicate an Existing Grid Product
  1. Navigate to Settings.
  2. Click Products or use the product pricing shortcut.
  3. Locate an existing grid product (e.g., business cards).
  4. Click Copy to duplicate the product.
  5. Update the product name and enter a product description (this will auto-populate on transactions).

Step 2 – Configure Grid Dimensions
  1. Open the product and click Check Pricing.
  2. Enable Quantity Breakpoints and confirm the warning (this clears existing pricing).
  3. Adjust the grid to 2 dimensions.
  4. Keep Quantity as the first dimension.
  5. Locate Attribute 2 and rename it to Material.
  6. Remove unnecessary attributes (e.g., size if fixed).
Step 3 – Enable Cost Column and Add Materials
  1. Enable the Cost column in the pricing grid.
  2. Add material options:
    1. Material 1: PVC
    2. Material 2: Composite Vinyl
  3. Confirm both materials appear as selectable options.

Step 4 – Set Quantity Breakpoints and Pricing

  1. Enter the first breakpoint (e.g., 1–5 units).
  2. Input Cost and Price for each material.
  3. Add additional breakpoints (e.g., 6–10, 11–15).
  4. Continue entering corresponding cost and price values.
  5. Use the Tab key to quickly move between fields.

Step 5 – Validate Pricing Configuration

  1. Return to Check Pricing.
  2. Select a quantity (e.g., 1, 5, 6).
  3. Switch between materials to verify pricing updates.
  4. Confirm pricing changes correctly at each breakpoint.
Notes & Tips

🔹 Tip: Make one change at a time and revisit Check Pricing to verify results.

🔹 Tip: Use product descriptions to streamline data entry on transactions.

⚠️ Warning: Enabling quantity breakpoints will remove existing pricing data—confirm before proceeding.

Outcome / Summary

After following these steps, you should be able to:

• Configure a grid-based product using quantity and material variables
