Lesson 2: Introducing Dynamic Pricing Based on Square Footage

Tyler MacDonald Updated by Tyler MacDonald

Objective

Introduce dynamic pricing based on square footage.

Outcome

By the end of this lesson, the product will automatically adjust its pricing based on the total square footage entered by the user.

Note: For this lesson, we will use a simple total square feet value that the user inputs. Subsequent lessons will cover calculations based on Width and Height.

Step 1: Copy the Previous Lesson's Product and Rename

Each subsequent lesson in this series will be a copy of the previous one. Please keep this in mind as you follow along.

  1. Copy the Product
    • From Lesson 1 - Setting Up a Basic Product, click on the blue action button and select Copy Product.
    • This will generate a copy of the product, which will be in Draft Mode.
  2. Update Basic Settings
    • Click on Basic Settings and update the following fields:
      • Product Name: Lesson 2 - Introducing Dynamic Pricing Based on Square Footage
      • Product Description: The product now adjusts its pricing automatically based on the total square feet entered.

Step 2: Configure the Pricing

  1. Select Configure Pricing
    • Adjust the following fields:
      • Cost: $1.00
      • Markup: 2
      • Price: $2.00
      • Units: Sqft
  2. Save Your Changes
    • As you make these adjustments, a green "Saved" icon will appear in the top right of your screen, confirming that your changes have been saved.

Step 3: Configuring and Publishing the Product

Once saved, you’ll remain on the Configure Pricing screen by default. We’ll delve deeper into this area in future lessons.

Draft Mode

All newly created products, or copies of products, are initially set to Draft Mode. This feature allows you to work on a product without introducing it into the main system.

Publishing the Product

To publish your product:

  1. Select the blue action button in the top right corner.
  2. Choose Publish Product from the dropdown menu.

Once published, the draft tag will disappear, indicating that the product is now active and ready to be used in transactions.

Step 4: Adding the Product to a Transaction

Using the Quote started in the previous lesson, lets add this new Product as a line item

  1. Add a New Line Item
    • Click +Add New Line Item.
    • From the Product dropdown, search for and select Lesson 2 - Introducing Dynamic Pricing Based on Square Footage.
    • Notice the Quantity field, indicates its Sqft, enter in 100 Sqft, and you will see a total Price of $200.00
    • Click Save this Line Item.

The product is now included in the quote.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You've successfully created a product with dynamic square footage pricing. In the next lesson, we’ll build on this by introducing Width and Height calculations to further enhance your product's functionality.
